I was significantly older than either of our other veterans when this photo was taken, moreover I still am .
I don't mourn this house, it was never very satisfactory in my opinion: the outdoor flights were too small and the ones on the northern side received very little sunlight. The red-fronted macaws and the blue-eyed cockatoos bred well, but few other species did. I do miss the range of parrot species on show, but those days are gone now. I hope that Islands will allow some extra species to go on show, in appropriate accommodation - and I don't just mean rainbow lorikeets.
As Maguari has said it was not noisy inside and it had two excellent benches for picnics on inclement or very windy days. Despite being so youthful in comparison with gentle lemur I am probably from a more distant age (in attitude that is) where zoos are concerned so I like taxonomic houses with a decent range of species, and the lack of parrot species currently on display at Chester is one of the reasons I have not been there since 2008.
I could never manage to fet a decent photograph of a St Lucia Amazon in the Islands in Danger exhibit.
Agreed. It's only the macaws outside the tropical house, the amazon parrots in the parrot breeding centre and the amazon parrot in islands in danger isn't it?
