Malawi eyebiter ca 1990

Incubating female. The big Malawi tank in the Aquarium has revamped several times. In its first incanation, there were fewer rocks and some Giant Vallisneria plants. The stocking had fewer mbuna species (rock dwelling cichlids) and more utaka (open water) like this female eyebiter. I think utaka females may retire to weedy in Lake Malawi to brood their eggs.cichlids)
Incubating female Dimidiochromis compressiceps. The big Malawi tank in the Aquarium has revamped several times. In its first incarnation, around 1990, there were relatively few rocks and some giant Vallisneria plants and it was stocked with just a few mbuna species (rock dwelling cichlids) and some utaka (open water species) too, like the eyebiter, which incidentally is probably a libellous name. I think utaka females may retire to weedy areas in Lake Malawi to brood their eggs.
Kodachrome original, scanned for PhotoCD and corrected.

I have just found a couple of further details: the film was Kodachrome 200 and the date was June 1990.
