Hippo Enclosure - 1990's

The old hippo enclosure at what I am pretty sure is Chester Zoo...

This is likely to have been taken between 1990 and 1994, but my knowledge of the zoo can't place it specifically.

It is Chester Zoo and is the current bull elephant paddock...

The hippos died in 1990. I was in the zoo on the day that the vet was going to put Myra down. She saved him the trouble by dying naturally.

Lol, I didnt notice the elephants before. I did quickly realise it had to be Chester because there was no way it was Blackpool or London, didn't bother to edit it though.

Also that brickwork is a running theme through every picture I have it seems

Most of the buildings at Chester were made from sandstone, it's quite nice.

It wasn't an ideal enclosure but at least they had them. The outdoor pool was partly hidden by the sandstone wall but if I remember correctly they could be seen better indoors, with their indoor pool at one end of the Elephant house.
