Western Plains Zoo visit 7th of June 2009.
One of their hippos in being intergrated onto the main savannah and it's starting off with a small area that they hope to increase slowly and steadily until it as lots of space. The hippo can get out of the bax and small yard that it's in.

It is alwyas amusing, when an animal in captivity is given access to a large space. Then chooses to stay in a smaller confined area!

I know and when I went for a look at the savannah he was still in there. I apolagise for the bad quality of this photo because I can't find how to turn the automatic flash off my camera so I was covering the flash, behind a glass window and sitting in a moving bus. Out of the 6 photos I took of the hippo this was the best.
I have a question about the savannah for anyone that might know. How long have there been congo buffalo on it? I know Werribee has/had some behind the scenes and was wondering if these moved here from Werribee?

The Congo Buffalo were there in December 2007 when I last visited.
