Greater vasa parrot pair 2005

Female sunbathing at the front, note moulted head feathers. They were my favourite birds at the zoo. This was one the first photos I took with my first digital SLR. Oakfield Aviaries (now demolished), Chester, 31st July 2005.

If I remember there was a sign asking the public not to alert a keeper to the bird in distress, the female liked to sunbathe with her beak open and her wings outstretced. Together with her plucked head, she did seem to look as if she was ill.
