Flamingos in the Bird Nursery - 13/10/2016

There are (I believe) twenty flamingos, a mixture of Caribbean and Chilean, in the bird nursery in East Zoo.

The reason is that the zoo no longer pinions birds, so the young from the flocks cannot join them after they have fledged as their enclosures aren't netted. These birds are therefore destined for other zoos, and neither flock will be bolstered by young from this season.

Does that mean the end of Flamingos at the zoo eventually or are the enclosures to be netted

A good question; the enclosures will have to be netted otherwise the flamingos will eventually die out, so it's hoped that'll happen at some point but the expense is considerable.
