Rainbow Aviary Demolition - 13/10/2016

The old Rainbow Aviaries have been demolished, but in a reversal of the usual trend these days, are being replaced with larger, more modern facilities. They will also be accessible from the path that borders the chimps, and lots of the plants have already been removed (ironic, as they had only just matured).

This is good news. It was never easy to view birds in those old aviaries and lawn around them got very boggy in wet weather. Perhaps they will improve the drainage before starting construction.

Very good news indeed - I was honestly expecting these aviaries to quietly disappear at some point with no direct replacement.

As was I, especially as the lawn is often used for events.

Having been in these aviaries, they were really difficult to work in, so I'm sure the bird team are pleased too.

Quite; much as the aviaries just along from the sunken garden quietly went offshow some years ago. I just hope that the species that were within the Rainbow Aviaries all go back on-display in the new and improved exhibit.
