Clacton Pier is still open and is your typical small seaside amusment park. It has slot machines, dodgeums, kiddies rollercoaster, small rides etc.
The dolphins and whales left in the mid 80's but the pier had sealions that performed in a show in the early 90's. I've also read that in the 80's the pier had penguins but I've never seen pictures of them.
If you look at Clacton Pier on google maps satellite view you can still see the remains of the pool which is left empty.
There is still a small aqurium on the pier but it is in bad need of re-development. It contains fish that you'd see in most tropical fish shops.
