£2 million was the cost of these new enclosure, however for these to be built they had to modifiy a bridge (I think) which probably took alot of the cash away for that.
That's probably a little strong. The Orang exhibit is poor, granted, but there are some good enclosures (albeit with comedy rock-work is some of them).
This comment sums up the problem of people commenting - stongly - on zoos that they ave not seen.
Colshester is absolutley not a joke. It is, in many ways, a fantastic zoo. The care of the animals is first rate and forward-looking. The involvement with ex situ conservation work is impressive. The collection is one of the best on the country. They look after visitors well. They are very successful in many many ways.
The only negative about the place is that, in some areas, the design of enclosures is a bit ugly, and there is a lack of taste on display with things like statues and so on. This is a pity, but it is not a hanging offence.
I think you should be a bit more cautious before dismissing a zoo in this way. It is too easy to fire off a message to an internet discussion forum when you are not armed with real facts and real knowledge.
