In terms of size and naturalism this appears to be a decent striped hyena exhibit, a species that is extremely rare in North American zoos. I like how the trees and bushes outside the exhibit seem to brush up along the fence.
They're not generally on show but there are also Stripeds at Heythrop.
The fourth hyaenid, the Aardwolf, can be seen at Twycross, Hamerton and the RSCC. There are no others on show in Europe as far as I'm aware. Despite the number of animals being small, since the arrival of Port Lympne's Browns the UK is the only European country to have all four species.
We just need someone to pick up the Spotted baton once (or before!) Colchester's eventually dies...
