View of Lost Madagscar walk through

Having seen this exhibits, its very well done, but I think its now become a lost exhibit to the zoo,as its doing what has been done in alot of UK collections, but not as well!Give me Cotswold Wildlife Park walk through Madagscar exhibit any day, over this and this despite the fact that CWP exhibit would fit inside this space about 3 times over.

Did you go on the little train so you could go inside? (and more importantly, get a look at the jackals!)

Looks like a clothes drying area in Soweto!
Going by the picture alone, never having visited Colchester, does it have the feel of a very confined, tight almost claustrophobic layout, maybe not so much in the newer African area?

We did indeed go on the train, and yes we did manage a look at the Jackals,we also decided not to take the train back, and took the walking route out and got some very funny looks from the staff for doing it!

We did the same, as did most of our train load as far as I can tell. If it wasn't for the jackals I would be quite content with the view from outside!

Yup!

Exactly right. ;)The 'old' Zoo, which is mainly built along a valley, is quite claustrophobic with many exhibits close together and many hilly paths leading hither and thither, rather like a maze.

The newer development of the Africa area is far more open plan, much wider paths and a much more open feel.

The other things that make Colchester feel compressed (I prefer that word to claustrophobic) is that there is very little space between the exhibits and most of the paths are curved, except in the section that Pertinax refers to and the area near the entrance.
In consequence your first visit can be rather disconcerting, as you have to study the map so frequently :)

i think it looks nice
i do prefer trees instead of ropes and perching but the bamboo growing looks good
