As expected there were very few entries for spotted hyaena births in the UK and I didn’t encounter any for spotted hyaenas being born in Dudley;

Got a feeling the ones at Dudley either did breed or were misquoted somewhere as having bred- somewhere I recollect seeing/hearing about a Spotted Hyaena that was 'born at Dudley'. I could be wrong here though so this isn't saying they definately did. I remember seeing them(not cubs though) at Dudley.

It's interesting that you think spotted hyaena bred at Dudley Zoo; as per one of my earlier posts, Dudley immediately sprang to my mind as a possibility for the last place in the UK to breed spotted hyaena - but I couldn’t trace any record of births there.

I well remember seeing spotted hyaenas several times at Dudley Zoo during the 1980s; they were then in the enclosure that was, I think, subsequently used for maned wolves and which housed bush dog on my latest visit. Sometime in the 1990s I also recall seeing the last remaining Dudley spotted hyaena in an enclosure near the chimpanzees; it was really off-exhibit but was visible if you knew exactly where to look.
