According to the studbook Colchester’s male pygmy hippo “Freddy” was born at Dvur Kralove in 1989; the female “Venus” was born at Edinburgh in 2000. (My copy of the studbook was published in 2008 so it is possible that there has been a subsequent change of stock.)

dean 25 Sep 2013 Thanks Tim I only asked as I have a memory of stroking a baby pygmy hippo at Edinburgh around the 1993 mark, and i'm sure it was called freddy but my memory may be playing tricks. dean
