African Elephants "Tanya" and "Zola". 12/3/90.

I remember this tiny yard and small house, in fact you could see the elephants quite clearly From the Maldon to Colchester road -to the left of the picture but visible- as you drove past, rather distracting for a learner driver.

Out of interest where was this in the Zoo? Was it where the sea lions are now?

I can`t remember for certain, but I have a feeling it was situated fairly near the old front or entrance area to the zoo, as Dean says it could have been seen from the road.

Yes it was roughly about the back of the sea lion enclosure and this photo shows at least 50% of the whole space then available to the elephants.

gosh, its a bit of a change from what they have now!
