My flavour of the month... Love the shaggy look of the big males, the facial displays and those sad sighing vocalisations they make.
Colchester have a nice group but I don't much like the bare enclosure- it is too small to stay grassy. Have seen them recently at Howletts and Wild Place(Bristol).
There is an article , with lots of photos, on geladas in the latest edition of 'BBC Wildlife' . The author describes them as follows - ' We found geladas to be a little reserved . They tolerated our close company but kept their mental distance . '
I have enjoyed seeing the groups at Edinburgh , Colchester and Howletts , and agree they look much better when they have a large grass-covered enclosure .
