Pacing is unsurprising in this, once excellent but now outdated, exhibit. Tiger Rock. October 2008.

I dont actually think its that bad, its spacious,Good vantage points, and some cover from trees if i can remember correctly in the further side of the enclosure.
It could do with some more trees for shelter and a mound for more high vantage points and perhaps a wooden shelter for more privacy but other than that i think its great :) - Its just needs abit of refurbishment but the original idea is still working.
One of Daws' better enclosure idea's and was indeed world class when built.

It isn't terrible; however, in my opinion, it is much too small for three tigers and needs more shade (in the form of mature trees like in the lion enclosure or a wooden shelter as you suggest). Not a disastrous exhibit, but the tigers were pacing a lot on my visit and that, to me, shows it is no longer acceptable.

I agree but Tiger's pace in every enclosure ive ever seen, Its what happens they are pattroling their territory looking for new scents and smells or waiting for feeding time if its at a set-time every day.
As things go Dartmoor need to focus on others before they come to the Old Big Cat enclosures.

I do not call searching for scents or territory marking stereo-typic pacing, the two are clearly distinguishable. This was two cats strolling up and down one area of fence-line (not where they were fed), frequently and at several different points throughout the day. I know that this is not the worst enclosure at the zoo, but I think it should have been a higher priority than the tacky new meerkat exhibit.

I agree with you but we never really know exactly what the animals are thinking, and we never will do.
I agree i think the meerkat enclosure is not a good thing but im not going to expand more due to my previous comments.
It will cost quite abit of money to refurbish Tiger Rock and that is money hard to find.
If it was expanded into the nearby wooded area it would offer more shelter and therefore more things to do, Aswell as a still great view it has for the visitors.
Hopefully this will happen in the near future :)
