Im pretty sure they hold 4 1 female called Tazmin and her neices Stripe and Blotch and Nephew Vlad,Tazmin is now kept in the original Tiger Ridge and the other 3 are kept in Tiger Rock.
Hope this info is useful to you.
Thanks this is very useful I am not sure but is tiger rock next to the lions and tiger ridge next to the wolves? So were there originally three tiger enclosures including this enclosure (the image here).
Tiger rock is next to the lions and Tiger ridge is by the wolves. At some point these 3 enclosures were all used for tigers and there were more off show as Dartmoor's ex owner Ellis Daw got procecuted for keeping tigers in unsuitable conditions one of which i think was behind this in the Corsac fox enclosure im very unsure though. They did have a very sucesful Tiger breeding programme which was far too succesful for the park as the cubs had no where to go so were kept in the smaller conditions but unfortunately they are ment to be pure Amur but have turned out to hybrid and i think that the orignal pair came from a circus? - anyone know about this? - this would make sense as most circus tigers are hybrids.
Tazmin came from Blackpool Zoo along with her sister Tammy, Tammy is now in Parc des feline in france they are pure amurs as far as i know
This info may not be totally correct but it does make sense! Hope its useful to you.
Regards
You said that Blotch, Stripe and VLad were Tazmin's nieces and nephew.
Are these Tammy's cubs? Also it says it was built for cheetah, has the park ever had cheetah?
Yes they are Tammys cubs. As far as i know the park has never held cheetah the enclosure was quickly used for the hand reared cubs Blotch and Stripe and then a year or so later Vlad and his brother were being handreared with them. His brother died a few years ago i think from a vesectomy as he never came round from the anesphetic
The fence definately looks like it should be made a lot taller-plexiglass maybe, or a wire-and-glass mix? I think an ape species *could* get a lot out of this enclousure.
Hmmm, I don't. There is no where near enough vegetation, inadequate housing and certainly not the money to pay for the alterations nor is there any experience in keeping great apes. I think they should stick to what they know.
I think they should net it over, put viewing windows all around the edge and keep a leopard species in here, maybe snow? I looked at it whilst there and just thought they'd fit.
