looks like a trip to the zoo is a pricy affair in Sydney! $15 for parking on top of $100-odd for the family admission!

I could fly to New Zealand for the cost of family admission and parking!

The prices at Taronga are an absolute joke, even though it is a terrific zoo. $15 could get me admission to the vast majority of AZA accredited zoos throughout North America, but for Sydney it is $41 per adult plus either the ferry or $15 parking! Insane, but then again the zoo will get 2 million people a year to visit...

To play Devil's Advocate, I suspect a huge free car park close to Sydney harbour might be difficult to keep clear for zoo visitors.

Does seem very steep though. Maybe they should charge and then deduct it from the zoo entrance fee - would put off the blaggers without costing zoo visitors any more. Of course, it may just be that they really do want to use it to make money...

American zoo's and zoo's just about everywhere have a much larger population base to rely on than Australian Zoos, the price is still incredibly high but Taronga's sister zoo Taronga WPZ has done something pretty good, possibly in light of fallin visitor numbers. People that live in Central West NSW recieve half price admission (this is based on postal codes which are asked at most tourist attraction when you enter) This might not sound like much but the central west region is a massive area covering bathurst (2.5 hours to the east) and much farther west and north upto 600 kms or more. this is how they accommodate :the working class poor" as someone mentioned before

A very common problem with city zoos.

What a fantastic idea and soooo simple. You get the elephant stamp of the day:D

Repeated because it really is so simple! If you could be bothered Maguari, i would suggest you email this idea off to all city zoos you can think of. I am sure you would be surprised at the response from some. It is always the simplest ideas that are so easily not seen.

Allot of carparks are actually owned by the city not the zoo. The zoo not receiving funds from car park.

Should point out that $15 AUD is about $10.50 USD.

This carpark belongs to Taronga.

That's what the weekly ticket is for. A lot of residents of the suburb drive to the zoo and catch the ferry to the city. Parking is at a premium in the nearby streets.
