Outside Chimp Area

Any body know if this is tempoary or is this it??
I read that this area of the zoo might be sold, and the Chimps will move to one of the pits where the Tigers and Bears are now, along with the Orangs.
Is that fence legal? It looks so flimsy, very worrying!

I hope the fence is legal..who knows. move them to the pits? They have moaned for years they can do nothing with the pits as they are listed buildings. How they will put chimps in those inadequete pits I never know. Check out my pics of the pits in the gallery:confused:

It just looks so weak, I've seen pictures of Chimps getting out of a fence like that in Africa using sticks, and they weren't even angry. Imagine if one of them got angry and tried to make a break for it, it'd be outside in a second!

Maybe this is the reason why they are kept inside!! The big problem is the chimp enclosure is down the far end of the zoo near the perimeter fence. It is well away from all the popular areas of the zoo & I have never seen keepers down that end at all. Lets just hope one never escapes as the busy town is a stones throw away.

Forget about the crappy fence, as I think that the climbing structures look like they might be the cheapest, most low-budget wooden frames ever constructed for great apes.;)

I think that would be a good thing. That way it would cost next to nothing, only some time and energy to pull it apart and make a whole new "playground" for their chimps. It could be done once a week or fortnight and the chimps lives would be enriched by having something new to do every now and then instead of climbing on the same frames for their entire life.

Unless the chimps tear off the members of the "frame," lean them against the flimsy barrier fence, and head for the nearby pub in town!

Ugly and borderline negligent dangerous animal containment.

I would rather the frames looked like this then pine...How I despise pine. But I do agree with you on the flimsyness fence.

I agree They say the chimpanzee is next to humans in the primate family then give them this excuse for an outdoor area. I know money is short at the zoo but how much would it have cost to higher the fence & make something more of the climbing frames. They have just spent a load of money moving the lion enclosure which could have been spent here. They say they plan on moving the chimps but that is no excuse for the outside area which seems to be like that since day one.
They should not boast they have the biggest chimp enclosure in europe as when all they have is probably the biggest fenced of piece of scrap land in any zoo I know.
