I still think these enclosures would do fine for chimpanzees and Orangutans if there were some sort of indoor buildings attatched to them. Perhaps they could partially cover over the outdoors for Orangutans too, in order to give more climbing facility and a better canopy feel.
I agree with you Pertinax, however for the moment i think it makes a really good Asiatic Black bear Enclosure i really like it
Thinking about it what you have suggested just a simple net going on top for the Orangs with a new house it wouldnt cost that much surely?
I think they'd have trouble attaching a new house to the pits because of their listed status. But this could suit chimps and orang quite well after some work. Actually, if both of them were netted over then there wouldn't be much trouble linking them to a new house as they could do it with a tunnel or something. Not sure if it's possible as I've never been but just a thought.

Yeah having a listed enclosure in a zoo restricts so many options for renovation,If they could connect them together it could make a fab orangutan complex
