By work do you mean they are refurbishing the old house attached to the "urinals", or that they're going to build a new house and demolition work has begun?
I love all this cloak-and-dagger stuff that goes on at zoos everywhere!You might as well ask Coca Cola for their secret formula or ask Ferrari if they wouldn´t mind giving you a copy of the blueprints for next season´s engine as ask a zoo what exactly this renovation is all about.I have sometimes had a chat with other zoo enthusiasts about this and after about five minutes I have nearly fallen over laughing.I mean, what exactly are they worried about - that somebody is going to copy them and make it cheaper in China?It´s brilliant - you couldn´t make it up!Actually , if you are as bad as I am you can have great fun with this , and wind up the press dept. in your zoo no end with a bit of imagination!
What work are you talking about here. Is there some building or construction work going on here? or at a different site?
This photo appears to show one end of the original apehouse,now with wooden cladding perhaps covering the existing brick, or at least this service area. Not any form of rebuilding though.
All the old windows along the side have been bricked up also there seems to be pieces of concrete lying around just behind the wheel barrows may be this is from the original floor inside the house?

At this end (opposite end to the food preparation room?) of the House there is/was a small offshow area & cage. It would be interesting to know exactly what 'Phase 1' means though....
