GORILLA HOUSE 1965

This is the original Gorilla House inmany books it's been attached to Berthold Lubetkin's enclosure's (Tecton building's) the more I deleve into the design of this the more it comes apparent that Lubetkin did have something to do with the design and build. This would surely make this the 14 tecton building at the zoo,
That's probaly why they won't or can't dulldoze it and make a much needed better enclosure.

Since they can't bulldoze it, apparently due to historical significance, they don't still display anything in it do they? At least not without adding some turf and vegetation I hope.

It's now the infamous orangutan house and yes it has some grass and climbing frames. It is at present under going a much over due refurbishment and extention.

It seems they perhaps followed the Lubetkin designs with the style and
original white colour of the building, particularly the outside. However I don't think it can be ranked as a Tecton building because of that, can it?

I think the reason they don't bulldoze it is more likely to be because Dudley have no funds to build a brand new enclosure, despite this having been talked about frequently- so are making do with refurbishing the old.

apologies for the miss understanding what I meant to say was that the design of the building was to resemble a Tecton Building with help from a member of the Tecton Group on the design. I miss understood the paragraph in the book I sourced the information from.
Sorry about folks
Changing the note slightly the zoo are still hoping to sell the ground at the bottom of the zoo.
this includes the following - chimpanzee enclosure, rabbit enclosure, red squirrel enclosures, monkey tails, the bear ravine, the farmyard and the adventure playground.
If this is the case then what will become of the Bear Ravine because I don't think a developer will have the same attitude to the Tecton Building as they should it will be lost for ever.
