The noise they make is amazing...I was in the orange-bellied parrot aviary at Healesville and there was one in there going mental about something. The noise it was making was so loud and it was so cool to be so close.
The male and the female have different calls, but they call in concert. The male makes the whip sound and the female immediately follows up with a little up-and-down melody of her own. They are so in sync with each other that it sounds like one bird making one call and it's only when you are standing between them that you can hear the two calls separately.
