Malaysian Sun Bears - 1978

Bear Canyon. The bears could be viewed from the road above (in the background) or across a moat from the road leading to the Lower Entrance.

The enclosure was all concrete and rock, but in 1981-82 it was renovated and although the large rock remained, much of it was planted out with grass, trees and shrubs, including three large pines sourced from the Jenolan State forest, and a waterfall and stream added. The sunbears had gone and were replaced by the zoo\'s three American Black Bears - Charlie, Jethro and Jed.

And the enclosure has just been renovated yet again (after being empty for some years) and red pandas were introduced just afew months ago.

No. Only a lone Kodiak Bear.

they do still have sun bears at least they did today!

Where are they Torie? I haven't seen Suns for ages.

there in the pit style exhibit in the african waterhole section. they sometime swap between the bears and the female dhole which may be why you havnt seen them

I'm an idiot - I've actually uploaded photos of the bears in that exhibit! But last time I was there I only saw the dhole, so maybe that's why I forgot.
