Historical Polar Bear Posters

This pictures is on the wall of the Asiatic black bear enclosure.

It seems a very popular day at the zoo!

do you know when this was taken roughly?

I also suppose that back then it wasn't uncommon for the public to throw food into the bear pit too.

I don't know for sure but I'm going to guess it was when the zoo first opened, there is another similar photo below it that appears far more recent (1980'sish) and the crowds are nowhere near as heavy as this.
I have a photo of it somewhere on my laptop, will dig it out and upload it later!

I would also guess it was taken on a Bank holiday, though I see some overcoats so maybe not the Summer one. Bank holidays traditionally have always been a big day for Zoos.

Here's a more recent one, taken from the same spot, http://www.zoochat.com/198/historical-polar-bear-posters-358409/ , that's how I remember it. The crowds had dispersed by the time I reached 4 years old!
