Glad you've enjoyed these photos Parrotsandrew, I was thrilled to find them. Do you remember where this exhibit was in the zoo (possibly the Barbary sheep area?)?
Its evidently not the same exhibit as the much larger Monkey enclosure- featured in photos on here- which was on or near the site of the Barbary sheep enclosure. That presumably disappeared at an earlier stage- the macaques in this one could be the last ones from the previous enclosure?
In my guidebook from the mid-1960s the other exhibit is still where the Barbary Sheep are now (they were then by the entrance, where the Flamingo and Soay Sheep exhibits are on the above map), and this exhibit was then for vultures. In the guidebook we purchased on our first visit to the zoo in May 1971 the Barbary Sheep had moved and the Rhesus Monkeys were in here (number 2 on its map). I think this guide must be from the late sixties as the price is 2/- rather than 2/-/10 new pence as I should have expected from a guide published in 1970 ahead of the sorry day in February 1971. I wonder if the guide with Cuddles on the front, from which the above map was scanned, was the first one produced under Scotia's ownership. I suspect it was as the Elephant paddock has not been constructed, plus Cuddles was the new big attraction, but I may be wrong.
I remember this exhibit too - I think I'm right in saying that it was where the indoor quarters for the Gelada baboons and spider monkeys are currently.
