Outdoor Orangutan Enclosure

Male Jorong was in it yesterday and is switched with females Jazz and Sprout regulary
I can't believe orangutans are kept like this in a modern British zoo. Where's the height for climbing? Where are plants? The moat looks terribly dangerous too. What a sad situation.

This enclosure has always been Dudley's 'weakest link'. It was built in the early 1960's to house three Great Ape species. No matter what they do to it- and they have improved both interior and exterior for the Orangutans that are nowadays the sole occupants, its shortcomings still remain glaringly obvious. Dudley is not a Zoo with vast financial resources, nor is it very modern, which may explain why this exhibit continues as it is.
