I have seen them in the wild on Jersey , spectacular big lizards compared to what we get on the UK mainland . Have also see the wall lizards breeding at Ventnor on the Isle of Wight .
I'm a Mancunian, so to arrive here and find a trip out to Ouaisne or St Ouens sand dunes reveals hefty green lizards that will happily run over your feet! Wow. I was in love
There is no project on breeding these currently, they are locally abundant in a number of locations around the island, native species work in Herps concentrates on the Agile Frog, Rana dalmatina, Common Toad, Bufo bufo and Grass Snake, Natrix natrix. All of which are distinct populations here in Jersey.
Wow ..... I just had to Google these as I had no idea Jersey had such a striking native lizard (depsite having been to Jersey and Durrell Zoo - oops).
Must be quite something to see them in the wild .... I get excited about the little geckos you can see in Cyprus and elsewhere in the Med, never mind something this large and bright much closer to home.
