Out of curiosity has Jersey ever had otter species other than Asian short-clawed? One of the common complaints here about UK zoos seems to be that this otter is everywhere, and given Jersey's focus on endangered species it is interesting that they are here too.
I think (but don't quote me) that the Asian Sc's may have been obtained initially to form a mixed exhibit with the Spectacled Bears in the 'First Impressions/Cloud Forest' exhibit- possibly because they are the easiest species to acquire. Not sure if the Otters, or most of them, are now seperated from the Bears in their own exhibit- I believe a bear killed at least one Otter here in the past though.
