It's one that they're currently working very hard on, with captive breeding & reintroduction.
When I was there in September, Komodos were in this enclosure; does anyone know where they were moved to?

Hi FBBird. The on display L. Fallax are housed in the first two enclosures as you walk in now, nearest the entrance. There was some in the rear part of the red-billed chough aviary (with signage saying 'we're going home')... but they were released in Montserrat recently, after being fitted with a new type of electronic tracker.

There are more held behind the scenes in a bio-safe area at the herp house. They are still a very vulnerable species, with chytridiomycosis being an ever present threat, but Durrell are truly trying to prevent the numbers from dipping to a less than viable population. ZSL also has some metamorphs on display, I believe, and Chester (were our old head vet and head of herps both now reside) have been working hard to increase the numbers.

So that was an old photo from before the Komodos arrived, & the Komodos are still in there? I hadn't thought of that. Many thanks.

Bristol Zoo also keep a decent population of these, last that I visited.

Komodos are still in there, but they are getting rather large, so may not be staying. We are hoping to raise funds for a new herp house this year, with much greater capacity. Given the Asian turtle crisis and Chytrid, the department is the most critical from a conservation standpoint.
