Indeed it looks far above the standards of most (almost all) USA zoos. In my limited experience with European zoos, the majority have better food than American zoos.
Not just with catering. The welcome you get at the entrance is warm and far more genuine than the robotic 'enjoy your day' of elsewhere. Never before have I been approached by a keeper who didn't know me and advised what to look for and where. What a difference from the look of panic and backing away when you do manage to ask someone a question (although maybe that's just for me ).
The Keeper Talks are a revelation, not sing-song voiced recitals, but the honest delivery of relevant information by passionate people who are experts in their field. And who are willing to stay and answer any number of questions after their Talks. To listen to Gordon Hunt talking about orangutans, for instance, was a privilege and a pleasure.
