Coming soon!

Confirmation on what is coming. This is one of two posters on the barriers announcing the species coming to Edinburgh. The first thing that went were the bars and windows along the top of the wall! There is a lot of work going on as that whole area is being extended.

Well done Simon, the great secret is out, been bursting to tell.
I wonder if it will be just sun bears, or will there be some satellite enclosures too, for other species.

Yay, sun bears make me happy :D I think a trip to Edinburgh will be needed once they've arrived!

I really want sun bears to make a RRH-style invasion of UK zoos, especially with the lack of bears in UK zoos nowadays (I'd love to see Marwell give them another go after holding them briefly in the 70s). Smaller so easier to cater for in constrainted conditions and entertaining to watch; I hope these will be on show when we go up to Edinburgh in the Summer! :D

I love these animals and I'm very curious to see what kind of enclosure Edinburgh are coming up with, especially what kind of barriers will be used (ie ditch/moat, high fence, glass etc...)

Huh! that was not on there on Thursday was it?!? I Don't remember seeing that on the barriers :o
But superb to have it confirmed now :)

Any idea's on where they will be sourced from?

They are coming from a rescue centre in Malaysia that has reached it's limit as regards Sun Bears. This means that Edinburgh is helping out a rescue centre and can tell the story of the problems faced by Sun Bears in the wild. Building bridges between other countries, wildlife centres and showing the conservation work covers a wide range of species!

I think that's where a lot of the sun bears in Australia have come from, and it's also where the RSCC got theirs from. I think they're a great tool to educate about the threats to Asian wildlife, partly because they're so active and very cute (especially the cubs).
