The old ape house is across from the main monkey house, this looks to be a great upgrade for the baboons, pity they couldn't do something similar when the gorillas lived there.

In my opinion this was by far Edinburgh's worst building construction in recent decades- dismal dark indoors and poor viewing outside where you couldn't see into the enclosures properly except from the two small viewing areas. I really thought it was abysmal, possibly the worst Ape House in the Uk for a while.
I think it will be far more suitable for the Baboons- for a start they will use the outdoors far more than Gorillas ever do. I guess they acquired this troop because they needed to fill it?
This was the enclosure where the Barbary macaques done their quarantine. The troop are here whilst Paris is being significantly modernised, watch this space as the troop seem quite settled and appear to be popping young out left right and centre!
I have to agree, and I'm sure most of the staff at the zoo will agree, the two (three) worst buildings in the zoo have to be the monkey house, the building the Guinea baboons are in at the moment (and the volunteer hut!) Keep in mind the infrastructure of the zoo is quite old and when all of these buildings were first built they were seen as extremely modern and exceptionally good buildings. It shows how zoos have changed! Even the penguin enclosure is sometimes looked on as showing its age!
As for the turf, I'm considering running a sweep as to how long it lasts, I'm being optimistic with 7 days!
