Do you remember that Lyndon Johnson said that Gerald Ford couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time? Well I'm afraid that I can't really count and shoot photos at the same time
There were two females with some degree of swelling, one close to the peak, with Gorbi staying near. There were no babes-in-arms but at least one toddler (bouncer would be a better description), plus a a couple of juveniles. I did note that old Gorbi is starting to look his age (19), hair a little sparser, legs a little stiffer - I know how he feels

I'm sorry, I have muddled the names. The second picture is the dominant male, who is still at the zoo. I am certain that I didn't shoot the female - as I thought she was such a poor specimen, so I am convinced it is the subordinate male. We will have to agree to differ.
Funnily enough I spent some time two days ago shooting the subordinate animals at Port Lympne, as Gorbi was not in a co-operative mood and I certainly found it difficult to distinguish them facially - perhaps I haven't got a good eye for this species: I just don't see them often enough.
Your second picture is indeed the dominant male, N'Boa, only he is no longer at Edinburgh. The male, the one you refer to as the subordinate and the one you believe is the individual in your original picture, is called Ilembo and he is the only male at Edinburgh now. Here is a picture of Ilembo taken recently by Javan Rhino:
Eventually!
I have shots from Whipsnade, Howletts and Arundel to process too and I hope to shoot at a couple more places in the next few days. Don't hold your breath

Probably still six(or seven) then. I have a feeling he may be breeding with one or more of the daughters as well as Bibundi now.
It does look like a young male to me- it has the beginnings of the 'pads' that frame the face. Compare with the definite female face which is more 'pinched' looking with slightly dished muzzle.
