there are so many pictures of animals copulating at the Edinborough zoo i geuss thats a good thing , but is there something in the air or something hahahaha?
Forgive me if I have asked before(can't remember) but is this tiny section the only bit of rockwork in the whole Gelada enclosure? If so I'm surprised they haven't added some big rocky piles to make more habitat variety/enrichment for what is now a fair-sized group.

It is the only rockwork in the exhibit; but far as I remember, the Bronx Zoo's much acclaimed exhibit doesn't contain that much more rockwork than does Edinburgh's exhibit.
Is there any thing else they can climb on? In the wild although they do live and feed on grassy plateaux, they also climb in trees and up and down the steep rockfaces where they go to sleep.
Is this just an open field? What is the nightime accomodation and does it have visitor viewing?
There are a few trees around the enclosure and an indoor heated area that splits in two. Both indoor sections have large windows with a central off show keeper area. The amount of grass for the size of the troop give plenty of opportunity for the "bum-shuffle" feeding style and to increase their dexterity with their fingers they get additional feeds including things such as rice. It can be quite something to see the alpha male sitting high in one of the trees watching over everyone!

Thanks for the description. I agree the large area of 'grazing' is very important for Geladas- it will prevent it becoming bare (Colchester's is just bare and muddy now) -its probably more important than larger rocker piles.
