I'm not sure about the relations of the two groups but as far as i know, Kluet didn't stop at Taronga and was imported directly to Adelaide Zoo.

no kluet lived at taronga for a while. cant remember how long though

But there is always the possibility they could acquire male/s (eg. Malu will need to be transferred from Melbourne Zoo in the near future).

That reminds me of something I saw yesterday. Malu was in with the two other girls. Are they on contreceptives or could they breed?

does any one know where they are being housed in now while the chimps live in there house. (are they still in the zoo grounds) :)

As far as I know, Perth's original parent animals aren't related to Melbourne's. Melbourne's male 'Santan' was born at Toronto(?) in Canada, so was Perth's more recent adult male though I believe even these two aren't actually related. I cannot remember where the Melbourne female 'Maimunah' came from though.

Are the Adelaide animals now Kluet and Katja?

The more founders, the better. :cool:



Kluet and Karta are the only orangs at Adelaide Zoo.

Attempts have been made to breed from them but they have so far proved unsuccessful.

But Karta is a terrible mum! AFAIK they would not want to breed from her. I believe the last young she had had to be handraised.
