Male Asian golden cat (Pardofelis temminckii) 'Ipoh' at Edinburgh Zoo.

This is the cat in the enclosure adjacent to the sun bears. I think he's beginning to recognise me.
It can be hard just to see him - but a shot like this is a fine reward for patience.
Thank you Alan. He edged towards me over a period of an hour, then slowly peered out from behind one of the logs just long enough for me to get this photograph and some eye contact.

Well worth the wait... and all the previous visits!

He's a shy cat, even by the standards of his species, but a lovely looking one :) I think he may well be the favorite animal at Edinburgh of both myself and my girlfriend.

Beautiful photo SMR.

Edinburgh has held a few Asian Golden Cats over the years. They used to have 'Bruno' but he died recently (February?), I think they've only had one or two females that I know of. They currently have 2.1, Ipoh (Pictured here) a new male which arrived from the Netherlands recently and Swai-Fai. Afaik this male 'Ipoh' and the female 'Swai-fai' came from the same collection and therefore are related, so I presume the new male is a potential mate for Swai-fai.

I do hope they produce kittens. I would love to see more golden cats in captivity (even if they are not in the USA any more :().
