As discussed at length in the past, they would have been eminently suitable for the purpose you propose - and in fact, in latter years held more small carnivore taxa than they did big cats and the like. However, the current management at Edinburgh isn't terribly interested in small carnivores..... or anything that isn't a Giant Panda, truth be told. As such the collection has been severely reduced in recent years, with many enclosures lying empty or being converted into garden areas.
