I am not sure of the other names or (if there are) species for/of this bird, I only remember this name being used in private aviculture alot rather than the name that you have said.
I hate the names red-fronted and yellow-fronted -- it is the crown that is red or yellow, not the frons. In contrast, the orange-fronted kakariki does have an orange frons.
That is true. I often think it is odd that so many species of Parrot are termed something "fronted" when, as you say, the colour in question is on their crowns.
