Bear exhibit 1968

It is a black bear.

Hear, hear, I still prefer to call it the Himalayan Black Bear rather than the Asiatic, just the same as I use Patagonian Cavy instead of Mara. I think at this time there could have been Malayan Sun Bears in the original Bear Pit.

Even Sewerby Zoo had a Himalayan Black Bear in those days - until it got too big.
