Oh Bubbles, Bubbles, I'm shocked and horrified you cannot remember where they were !!!! The trees are the ones bordering the track from near the Elephant House to the road to the village (bus timetables call it the "lane" I think). Passing the right hand side of the Elephant House and paddock the Peccaries had two quite large paddocks to your right. They were there right up to a few years ago when the Camels were moved out of the old Elephant House, the island flattened and the Bison installed. In the winter opening periods at least they were often given the run of the old Elephant moat and I photos of them being herded back up for the night, although something is telling me these photos were out of focus !
I believe at one time this was the only sizeable group of Collared Peccaries left in a UK zoo- because the keeper-or someone connected with them- was interested in Pigs so they were encouraged.
I wonder where they went from Eden Ostrich World. Are other Collared Peccary groups in the UK now descended from those previously at Flamingo Park perhaps?
Its odd but I don't remember them at all. I've only been twice, once late 1960's when they had the Elephant Seal and Dolphins, and a 2nd visit more recently about ten years ago, when I scarcely remembered the layout at all. Wanted to see where the Orangutans were kept, but couldn't remember, though it was in some sort of walled area near the House.

The Peccaries should have been there ten years ago. Without digging out all of my notebooks I should say it would have been about 2002 when they were moved from the site they had occupied for 30+ years and soon departed altogether. The Lost Kingdom was opened in 2003 and it was the impending construction of that that saw the Bison moved up to the old Elephant House and having a paddock that included the old Peccary area (of course the house was soon to be converted for Chimpanzees).
I could not resist a quick look for a notebook and I have just struck lucky and found the one for October 2002 to October 2004. I have noted 1-2 Bison in the old Elephant House on 25th October 2002. Ah, the paddock was under construction on 8th November. I cannot see any mention of Peccaries so they must have already gone. Typical! I have just looked for the preceding book and I cannot find it! There is a gap from 2000 to 2002.
The current zoo gift shop is on the site of the old Orang-utan area, although some of the indoor cages of the complex do still exist as behind the scenes accommodation - there is a little door to them next to the Bird Show Theatre and also access from within the Keepers' Yard. Last week I found a slide of a Chimpanzees' Tea Party with a view of the Ape House, but it is one that for some reason I have not had a print from. I think Bubbles had a liink to a photo of the Ape House on one of her Flamingo Park/Land threads.
Just had a look. It is on the "Where Was This?" thread. Go to Bubbles's post of 7th March 2011 and it is the photograph of the glass-fronted building.
