Has to be one of the most charismatic bird species, without a doubt. They look so innocent & as if they were personally accountable for great responsibilities.A jewel in any collection.
Ypecaha Wood Rail Aramides ypecaha, also called the giant wood rail. I spent a long time trying to get a decent shot of these at Flamingoland in April 1976. I have seen them several times since, and obtained better photos.
I have now done the deed. My humble apologies to everyone - I hate making mistakes and I am looking around for something to hit myself with. I use a ruler at work but there is not one to hand. The ironic thing is I opened my copy of "The Animals of Flamingo Land" to make sure I got the spelling right. Hang on, whilst it is right in the labels bit, it is wrong in the species list in the back where I was looking. No excuse though. Ow, ow I have just hit myself across the knuckles with a hair brush and it hurts!
Although in 1976, and unlike now, I was more interested in mammals than birds I was very fond of this bird and always enjoyed seeing it. Pity the correct spelling did not stick with me. This hand really hurts.
