Some of the exhibits at Flamingo Land are fairly spacious (baboons, chimpanzees, zebras, penguins, tigers, lions, etc) but they are all quite basic in design. I'm Canadian but I have English parents and when I was younger they would tell me tales of the many exotic animals to be found at this park. According to Wikipedia over 1.8 million people visit each year, but it seems as if the rollercoasters and other rides are the main attraction. Is that correct?
I'm afraid they are for most people. The zoo did come second for quite a few years, but a lot of money has been spent on it since the turn of this century. A few years ago the management said the zoo and the theme park rides were to have equal billing as far as marketing was concerned i.e "wild animals and wilder rides" - not my favourite slogan but so be it.

Yup the roller coasters are more the attraction than the Zoo. I agree that some of the enclosures are pretty spacious (Specially the Lions and Tigers!). The Zoo for many years was the main focus but after a few years it started getting more of a theme park.
The zoo was at a low ebb for a number of years, but there have been many improvements since the late 1990s. I date the resurgence from 1997 with new labelling (yes, things had labels then!) and the opening of this Baboon Island (it looked very well at the time as the animals had not had the opportunity to kill the trees). You may think that date is appropriate Jordan?
