Javan Rhino

Deer species for ID

Another ID, though I'm hazarding a guess at Bactrian wapiti for this one - can anybody confirm one way or another?

On a side note, so many species I didn't photograph at Highlands and I regret now: Takin, bharal, beaver, lynx [well, got an ear of the lynx in the grass], japanese serow, moose, reindeer etc. Too preoccupied with seeing my first polar bear :p

Bactrian Wapiti (Buchara Deer) looks right to me. :)

We never did establish what the majority of the Bactrian Wapiti died of- they are currently listed as having just 2.1. I wonder if they will persevere with them, try and add a couple more females or what?

I was at the park today, i think these are our red deer, the bactrians seemed lighter and there was no tree in their part of the reserve.

Quite prepared to bow to your local knowledge, but the animals in the photo look far too pale for scoticus to me. Could be deceptive, though. :)

The one in the foreground certainly, now you've got me doubting myself.

My guess is they are the Bactrian ones. The rump patch seems more extensive than in Scottish Red Deer. They are obviously shedding their grey winter coat and as 'Maguari' says the red underneath isn't as rich as in 'Scoticus'.

Actually, I posed this question to their Facebook page and somebody who seemed as if they work there said 'it is one of our young red deer in velvet.'
