You don't get to see them that often.

And bonus points to Jackwow for using the correct American terminology of moose, instead of the mixed-up European habit of calling a moose an elk (when an elk is really a wapiti)! :p

What a nice photo :)
But as the title suggests in Scotland a moose is a vernacular mouse :) (unless your name is Burns in which case it's a 'Wee, sleekit, cow'rin, tim'rous beastie', of course).
In my book Alces alces alces has always been and will always be an elk elk elk!

'Elk' belongs with 'panther' in the big bucket of needless, unspecific animal names. :D

We can get by perfectly well with 'moose' and 'wapiti', thank you very much.

Nice shot of the moose ( ;) ) - when I was there last year they were visible but right at the back of the exhibit.

Personally I go with the following:

Elk = Alces alces
Moose = Alces americana
Wapiti = Cervus canadensis

That said, I'm perfectly happy using the terms "American Moose" and "Eurasian Moose" too :p
