Very large and attractive exhibit for at least three European Lynx.
Very large and attractive exhibit for at least three European Lynx.

This Enclosure was first built for the Asiatic Black Bears that Aspinall first got hold of - you can see around the edge of the enclosure a pit like dip around the enclosure so the bears could not escape. This is a good design as it is not even noticable too much.
However when they moved to another Park Siberian Tigers took over the enclosure as they were also being held in the enclosure's towards the back of the picture. There is only one Tiger I could see back there called 'Manas' - whether or not he is a Siberian Tiger im not sure but if I remember he was born in 1997 so he would be 12 so he is old enough to be one of the last Siberians born at the Parks. Im not sure if there are any other Tigers in this area as there were quite a few enclosures offshow in the old Siberian area.
And now It holds European Lynx and Following the Aspinall Simple Design it works really well.

Esau and Ayesha the Bears were one of the first animals Aspinall ever kept but one afternoon while going in with them like he normally did it was only while he got in there did he realise that Esau was trying to mate Ayesha without success.
Naturally as you would think Esau was not too pleased and Aspinall has a very narrow escape.
"Sadly, the bears never bred successfully and a few years later I sen them to Austria as I needed their Enclosure for a family of Amur Tigers"
There are no other details this is all I could find in the book 'The Best Of Friends'.
Yes Aspinall made a mistake which he has said in the book and he never went in with them again.
Hope this helps Cat-Man.

Im pretty sure they are European Lynx but someone feel free to correct me if im wrong.
Edda (F), Freyja (F) and Lars (M) were all born on the 28/05/93. As they are all related and there are no more I would safely so they are not currently breeding at the Park.

Howletts' lynx are labelled as European, Port Lympne's as Siberian (and they do look their respective parts).

Cheers Maguari looking at the Port Lympne Lynx's there is a definate difference between them and the ones at Howletts.
