It's very good - simple and straightforward but all the better for it.

"Simple and straightforward" is all that it should be about. No need to spend millions and millions of 'recreating' an African savanna when you have a bit of the English countryside to play with.

The Aspinall parks' breeding record with these and so many other species is one of several arguments I use to defend them with. Sadly I have only seen Howletts to date, and that was 10 years ago, but I hope to revisit it this year as well as seeing Port Lympne finally.

It is indeed a very nice enclosure, they've had one of the biggest breeding success in Europe isn't it? Well they certainly have in the UK with only Knowsley and Colchester breeding two which is the nearest to Howletts!

Howletts currently have two males Jums (Born 1977 in Zimbabwe) and his son Mchumba (Born 25th January 2011, mother is Masa).

The females are Shibi and Masa (Born 1980 and 1972 in Zimbabwe respectively) The other mature females in the group are Stuvite (Born 11th October 1987 at Ramat Zoo, Aviva X Yossi). Tammi (Born 4th April 1987 at Ramat Zoo, Katrina X Yossi). Swana (Born 2nd July 1985 at Howletts to Masa and Bwana). Young females in the group are Etana, Manzi, Jara, Juluka, Uzuri and Jama.

Jums has two sons Janu and Juva who moved to Port Lympne in 2011. Umna one of the adult females had a calf but she was a inbred Elephant herself. She also recently died.

Are they any plans to move Jums or any of his daughters? As some are reaching maturity.
