does anyone know his name? he was in the bachelor group in Port Lympne (with Ambam and Mataki) in 2010. I think they have been moved to the Netherlands recently.
The photos indicate very clearly which group it is- the five oldest. They are all mentioned by name and portrait in different pictures.

I presume that the other male group( originally from Kifu's group) will find themselves at Longleat.

Would they be moving onto the island ??

Longleat are building new quarters at the far end of the Lake for a bachelor group of males. Not Nico's island but that area. I must stress I don't know that they will be coming from Port Lympne but it seems by far the most likely source for a Safari Park to get Gorillas. Nowadays Howletts/PL seem to move male groups to other collections much more than previously(they need the space for yet more males).

As GorillaBoy has pointed out in another thread, Boumi died in September. Does anyone know the cause of death? He was only 22 years old.

He Died of A Parasite Infection and the vet anaesthetised him but he died during the procedure and they tried to resuscitate him but he didn't come around :( he was one of the most handsome silverbacks in the aspinall collection its ashame he never got the opportunity to breed

If you ever need any information about the gorillas at Howletts or Port Lympne just ask :)

Thanks for your reply, GB, and your kind offer :). I might get back to it when making the last 2 Howletts family trees and the one for PL. - Willard

I still think this photo might be 'Boumi' (but not certain).

It sounds like yet another Gorilla which has died under anaethsetic- it is still quite common, though if he was ill already that could well have contributed too.

I hope none of the others suffer from this same infection. Presumably what was the Big Five are currently four- although Boumi's fullbrother 'Timbou' (and very similar to him in appearance) lives in the adjacent section seperately. I wonder if they may try to reintroduce him to the others at some stage? (he fought badly with 'Ambam' so was seperated several years ago.)

In the other Pavilion currently live the four younger 'K' males, all sons of 'kifu' and removed from his group and transferred to PL in July 2010. Also living seperately (in the old Chimpanzee 'tower' cage?) is the older male Ujiji (Bitam x Juju), another half-brother of Boumi & Timbou.

My guess is its possible they may try and add Ujiji to the 4 younger males to form another single group. I believe these(either as 4 or 5) are the ones destined for Longleat next year.

Do you know which year Timbou was separated from the rest of the group and Head gorilla heeper at howletts said they may have found a female to pair up with Ujiji.
I dont know if this will happen though but hopefully they will all get an opportunity to lead a group and breed

no, I can't remember but its been quite some time now(five years or more?)

It would be interesting if they provide a female for Ujiji- I guess they don't like keeping lone males if they can avoid it.

I think some of these males will never be group leaders as there are so many of them.:(

Thanks at howletts in the last 8 births they have only had 1 female and that was Affy born in August 2009 to Djanghou's Group.

It would be nice to see a birth in Kifu's group as they havn't had a birth since oundi February 2006.
