When I visited last month this was my favourite exhibit , a very lively group making full use of the big enclosure . They must have roughly the same number of these as Chester now .

Fair few more than Chester by our count, and Chester's group is already big for this species.

They started with 10- from a private source in Germany. The group expansion looks like its had a toll on the vegetation a bit now though- I think that dead-looking tree behind the tallest climbing frame/rockery was once a stout Hawthorn they used to play in, but has now become a casualty?

Good enclosure though and probably my favourite one there too.

Is this species common in European zoos?

They're not really common but not a massive rarity either - according to Zootierliste they are kept in about 40 collections.
