What's the hole in the floor for?

Is that the start of the dry moat?

I don't think there is a moat, that's why I'm confused :-s

I must admit it has been a few years since my last visit but I thought there was a dry moat that ran along in front of the house, but out in the paddock was just hotwire across the ground. Which would make sense as to why you can see hotwire across the "hole" to stop elephants climbing down and out of the enclosure.

It's possible then, I was just going by other pictures as I've never been here.
